Flip The Script: Telling Your Story, Your Way
Hosted by BridgingTheGap Ventures x The Heroine’s Journey
Equality and Inclusion
“When everything seems going unfavourable to you, most of the times you start doubting all the decisions that you took and end up with self-doubt and misery. But there comes a moment where there is one particular thing that will hold you up and help you come out of the tangled maze that you are in. 'That' particular thing for me is YOUNGA.
This Innovation Mastermind will focus on learning and redefining storytelling. Youth need to be at the forefront of making the world a better place but that will only become a reality if they are allowed to share their experiences in the best, most honest way possible.
This session will start by primarily focusing on what our narratives have traditionally been, how they developed and why—an exploration of colonial cultures and xenophobic narratives that continue dominating our world today.
We’ll then shift the focus to modern-day reinventions of storytelling through historical movements like #MeToo and Black Lives Matter as well as youth-led revolutionary movements like March for Our Lives. Participants will be asked to critically analyze what it means to define and tell their story, and then asked to engage in a Socratic
Dialogue to define what storytelling means for them. Participants will leave with not just a renewed sense of what storytelling is, but also with a set of tools, resources and networks to use on their storytelling journeys.

- Umang Dhingra, CEO of Project Destinytion
- Kelly Lovell, CEO of BridgingTheGap Ventures and global chair of YOUNGA

Advancing STEM Accessibility
Equality and Inclusion
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields are rapidly growing...
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields are rapidly growing in this ever changing world. The opportunities in STEM education and STEM careers are endless, and they are seemingly all around us. Yet, these opportunities aren’t accessible to all—people of color, non-English speakers, women, those who identify as LGBTQ+, those with disabilities and other communities who were historically excluded from STEM fields are largely underrepresented in STEM fields still.
Our organization, InventSTEM, works to improve STEM accessibility for underrepresented communities worldwide. This Innovation Mastermind will include a speaker panel featuring three members of InventSTEM’s Board of Directors; Sanskriti Deva (our Founder and Executive Director), Lauren Carson (our Director of International Relations), and James Paek (our Director of College & Career Readiness) all come from various socioeconomic, racial/ethnic, and even geographic backgrounds but, they all share one goal: To increase STEM accessibility for as many people as possible. Sanskriti, Lauren and James will share their stories—describing why and how they got involved with STEM accessibility advocacy. Additionally, they will encourage participants to seek out inequities in STEM opportunities within their communities and will give guidance on how to make impactful changes that address these inequities.
Speakers:
- Sanskriti Deva, Founder and Executive Director of InventSTEM
- Lauren Carson, Director of International Relations at InventSTEM
- James Paek, Director of College & Career Readiness at InventSTEM
Inclusive Environments: A Win-Win for All
Equality and Inclusion
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields are rapidly growing...
It is imperative for corporations to create work environments where employees feel comfortable, confident and at their best, from mental wellness to support systems and professional development, regardless of their backgrounds or identities. The shockwaves of social justice in the last year have pushed many institutions to take steps towards increasing DE&I efforts.
This session will gather experienced leaders to share best practices for generating positive and supportive environments for your workforce.
What have these leaders experienced throughout their journey that has guided how they are leading their organizations?
What has worked and what hasn’t?
How does this also translate to global action outside of the business environment?
Join us to find out!

Young leaders have a role to play in their communities to ensure an LGBT-inclusive response to COVID-19. Join U.S. Youth Observer to the UN Dustin Liu and Victor Madrigal-Borloz, UN Independent Expert on protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity (IE SOGI) for this Innovation Mastermind session on youth leadership for a more inclusive and equitable world. Participants will review the IE SOGI's recently released guidelines for a COVID-19 response free from violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Then, they will break the guidelines down into local, national and international actions for young people to get involved. The IE SOGI ASPIRE guidelines are based on six fundamental actions: 1) Acknowledgement; 2) Support; 3) Protection; 4) Indirect discrimination avoidance; 5) Representation; and 6) Evidence-gathering. While exploring these six areas, participants will brainstorm actions and create an action plan for their locality to implement the guidelines. The Youth Observer to the UN will offer guidance and best practices for local youth leadership in this context.

There are widespread examples of how youth, driven by questions about the future society they will inherit, are championing innovations across key domains of a future sustainable society.
The 1.5-degree lifestyles report shows that by 2050, the world’s population may reach a whopping 10 billion and with it more demand for food, fashion, travel and housing to fulfill needs and aspirations.
This Innovation Mastermind taps into the energy demonstrated by youth initiatives, to inspire other youths to live better and lighter, as well as inform broader policy and business solutions. It highlights constraints and also opportunities for youth engagement, and explores what are enabling conditions to facilitate the adoption of sustainable lifestyles. The session will also showcase the power of youth as game changers—a theme that will be discussed at Stockholm+50.
We set the stage with key insights and framework conditions from the lead author of the 1.5-degree lifestyles report and will hear the perspective of three young advocates from around the world who are acting, inspiring and enabling young people to be part of the change. They are re-thinking how we live our lives, how do we consume and use our time, and what do we eat and waste. They will provide inspiring stories, showing the power of youth to be a driving force for innovative lifestyles and to GO4SDGs.
Moderator: Mrs. Adriana Zacarias Farah, Head and Global Coordinator of GO4SDGs, United Nations Environment Programme

Let’s discuss key takeaways from Kiss the Ground, the film, as well as Kiss the Ground the movement, including yet not limited to: reducing toxic pesticides and fertilizers; reducing flooding, drought, and fire hazards; and reversing Global Warming by the drawdown of 200 million tons of CO2, all while increasing and reviving farmer prosperity.
“As the next generation of creators, consumers and passionate advocates, we encourage you to play a key role in climate justice, biodiversity and regeneration. Whether you aspire to build, design or produce with regeneration in your ethos or simply want to shop for food, fashion and fuel sustainability, we have skills to share with you to shift your impact to balance earth’s climate. #MakeShiftHappen” -Taryn Hipwell

This Innovation Mastermind will walk participants through the creative strategies and operational structures that Reserva: The Youth Land Trust has implemented to build an effective youth-led conservation non-profit. We approach the theme ‘People and Nature’ as an instructive, behind-the-scenes case study, sharing our story of how a diverse and international group of young people with a shared love of wildlife have overcome traditional barriers in order to take direct action for the conservation of nature.
Young people from outside environmental fields of study often find it difficult to participate in the conservation movement, and even more difficult to start an organization. With this session, we hope to propose a less gatekeeper approach to conservation and to show that young people in every field—from finance to modern art—can be active participants in protecting and preserving our wild planet. We hope our transparency will enable other youth organizations to learn from our parallel experiences and for all participants to come away with new ideas for non-performative youth empowerment.

Sea levels are rising 1/8 of an inch every year. There are 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic debris in our oceans. 100 million marine animals die each year from plastic waste alone. We need to do more to protect the entities that cover 70% of Earth and are essential to our survival. This Innovation Mastermind will consist of a multi-stakeholder roundtable that empowers Youth Delegates to co-create solutions to ocean pollution featuring perspectives from creatives, diplomats and policy makers.

Our daily lives have been heavily impacted by the current health and economic crisis engendered by COVID-19. We have changed the way we interact with one another, the way we attend school and perform our work, our eating habits and so much more. Millions around the world have lost their income; furthermore, the loss of life is a heartbreaking tragedy. In these circumstances, self-care is more primordial than ever. Also, while isolation can be debilitating, being part of a community, of a whole greater than ourselves, can play a pivotal role in our journey towards health and happiness. This is why actress and humanitarian Kat Graham and Emmy Award-winning journalist Frank Elaridi created Modern Nirvana: to create a community of like-minded individuals interested in connecting and growing together. During this panel, they will discuss this new endeavor focusing on bringing information, experiences and wellbeing to the next generation.

Explore the meaning of self-care from the perspective of a young person.
Encourage the development of ideas, concepts and solutions for self-care.
Stimulate innovative thinking and problem solving for self-care solutions for young
people.
Session overview:
The World Health Organization defines self-care as: the ability of individuals to promote, maintain health, prevent disease and to cope with illness with or without the support of a health care provider.
It is a means to empower individuals and to help decrease inequities in health.
During this interactive 90-minute session attendees will be asked to collectively ‘hack’ for finding the best solutions for self-care targeting youth. Together with the attendees of this session we will look at what self-care means to youth, what are some challenges and solutions to support and increase the uptake and implementation of self-care interventions in their local settings.
After a brief introduction to the concept of self-care, attendees will form groups and start designing their own self-care interventions. This will be done in a rapid hackathon format where the teams will be supported and mentored to brainstorm innovative solutions.
The best ‘hacks’ and ideas will be reviewed by the WHO Academy and incorporated in the design for a digital self-care learning programme planned to reach millions of health workers and others around the world. The attendees will also get a chance to become part of a youth expert focus group helping design the programme and facilitate future youth related events.
Speakers:
- Dr. Israa Siddig, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Subject-matter expert, WHO Academy

While there are many approaches, each with its own pros and cons, one time-tested method stands out from the rest: mindfulness practice.
In this session, we will introduce a brief history of contemplative teachings, the basics of mindfulness meditation and some introductory practices that you can take with you into your everyday life. These simple exercises can help you maintain your equilibrium in the face of uncertainty, face whatever challenges arise throughout your day and embrace the deeper aspects of yourself you may not have known were there. The workshop will guide participants to explore the concept of digital wellbeing. Digital wellbeing is about creating and consuming a balanced and varied diet where digital technologies are feeding our minds, bodies, hearts and souls with the nutrients they need. The problem is many of us, especially during this pandemic, have been binge-eating on digital junk food that is poor in nutrients, that gives only instant gratification and that generates endless cravings. It’s time we rebalance our digital diet. However, we must remember that digital wellbeing is an individual choice: there’s no one-size-fits-all diet. Each body is unique and needs a personalised diet to grow strong and healthy. This means that each of us must evaluate our own relationship with tech and determine if tech is serving us in the best way possible, or if we would like to make changes to our daily habits so that tech can bring greater benefits (without drawbacks). Food metaphor aside, digital wellbeing is about getting the benefits of technology without the unwanted distractions. It’s about taking an active stance in leading a more balanced digital life so that technology enhances our wellbeing and allows us to achieve our goals and fulfill our life purpose. During the workshop, we will be conducting an assessment on each participant's digital wellbeing, presenting the concept, presenting some of our recipes and trying at least one out with them on the spot!

WAGGGS and Dove aim to bring much needed to attention to body confidence and appearance-based discrimination as key issues which require immediate attention in order to achieve the goals of the Being Platform for Action and ensure that the 20230 Agenda for Sustainable Development is met.
In line with WAGGGS’ core mission, this will be a girl-led and youth-led event, organised and focused on the delegation WAGGGS will bring to YOUNGA virtually.
Overall Key Messages:
The session will explore how low body-confidence, self-esteem and appearance discrimination continue to be overlooked and contribute to the gender gap by preventing young women and girls from full participation and leadership, which is creating a global crisis for youth mental health and wellbeing. Furthermore, the session will explore how low body-confidence, self-esteem and appearance discrimination encourage the gendered imbalance within the social politics of decision making and remains a key trigger for physical and mental health challenges. The session will include the features below:
- Interactive learning
- Opportunity to draft solutions
- Digital activities from WAGGGS and Centre of Appearance Curriculum, which is a researched curriculum tool to boost self-esteem, well being and body confidence
- Keynote speakers (Body Image and Wellbeing Experts)
Led by WAGGGS Advocacy Champions, attendees will participate in an interactive and mobilising thought summit on this issue. Alongside leading experts, young women speakers will review work achieved in this area and highlight further necessary action to tackle the sizeism, colourism, ableism and physical discrimination preventing the advancement of young people, and the global low body confidence crisis resulting from this.

One of the most important skills we need for success in teams and organizations is the ability to deal with conflict. Conflict is when “two or more different perspectives come into contact with each other”. By definition, it is neither positive nor negative.
How we deal with it is either constructive or destructive and we do need different perspectives for innovation and growth.
Recognized with the best leadership development award globally by YPO, Nonflict is a simple yet powerful 3 step process that can be used to resolve business or personal conflicts constructively. Nonflict has been taught to over 235,000 people, including 3,500 CEO’s, impacting over 9 million people from boardrooms and living rooms, from Amazon’s Alexa to the Vatican, over the past 6 years.
Meet Stephen Hecht, co-founder of Million Peacemakers and co-author of Nonflict, The Art of Everyday Peacemaking for an interactive discussion. Stephen has held national and international leadership roles within YPO including chairing global education programming. He is currently chair of the YPO Peace Action Network with a focus on building bridges for inner and family peace, peace in conflict zones and polarization, and interfaith and racial harmony. He will be joined by two young peacemakers, Marisa Samek and Yuval Shilon who will demonstrate some of the learnings.
Speakers:
- Stephen Hecht, Co-founder and Chief Executive Peacemaker of Million Peacemakers
- Marisa Samek, Creative (designer, writer, musician) trained in UX research
- Yuval Shilon, Student at McGill University, Faculty of Management, and intern at Million Peacemakers
